In preparation for the upcoming budget session, the Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, has called an all-party meeting on February 27 to ensure the smooth functioning of the 43-day long session.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Legislative Assembly complex in Jammu, will include leaders from the National Conference, Bharatiya Janata Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and Peoples Conference, as well as other key legislative representatives and chief whips.
Notable invitees include Sunil Kumar Sharma (BJP), Ali Mohammad Sagar (NC), Mubarik Gul (NC), Sajad Gani Lone (Peoples Conference), Muhammad Yousouf Tarigami (CPI-M), Ghulam Ahmad Mir (Congress), Surjeet Singh Slathia (BJP), Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra (PDP), and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan (Independent).
The budget session, set to begin on March 3, is expected to be contentious, with opposition parties gearing up to challenge the government on various issues. The BJP is likely to question the government’s governance and its manifesto commitments, while Kashmir-based opposition parties like PDP and PC are expected to raise matters related to Article 370, the alcohol ban, and other key topics.
Additionally, Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone has submitted a resolution condemning the August 5, 2019 decisions and calling for the restoration of Article 370. PDP MLA Mir Muhammad Fayaz, NC MLA Ahsan Pardesi, and AIP MLA Sheikh Khursheed Ahmed have all submitted separate bills advocating for a ban on the sale and consumption of liquor in Jammu & Kashmir.
