In a strong move aimed at combating illegal mining in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government has suspended Joint Director of Geology and Mining, Jammu, H L Langeh, and attached him to the Administrative Department. All powers previously vested in him have been immediately revoked.
The directive, issued by the Mining Department under Government Order No. 13-JK(MNG) of 2025, comes after receiving instructions from the office of Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary. This decision highlights the administration’s dedication to ensuring greater transparency and accountability within the mining sector.
The action is a response to mounting concerns over unauthorized mining activities that have caused significant environmental damage and financial losses to the state’s economy. As a result, the Director of Geology and Mining, J&K, has been tasked with compiling a comprehensive report to address complaints related to illegal mining and the issuance of disposal permits.
