India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the 2025 Champions Trophy final to claim a record third title. Chasing a target of 252, India reached the target in 49 overs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with Ravindra Jadeja sealing the victory by driving the last ball of the 49th over for a boundary through fine leg.
The win sparked a wave of celebration as Indian players rushed onto the field. Rohit Sharma embraced KL Rahul and Jadeja, sharing a moment of joy after the triumph.
After losing his 12th consecutive toss, Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first. India’s spinners kept New Zealand in check, limiting them to 251/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45) played key roles with the ball.
In their chase, India was well-paced at 183/3 after 38 overs, thanks to solid contributions from Rohit (76 off 83 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (48 off 62 balls). However, they encountered some nervous moments when they lost two quick wickets. Yet, KL Rahul (34 not out off 33 balls) held his nerve to guide India home, following a quickfire 18 from Hardik Pandya.
For New Zealand, Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101 balls), Michael Bracewell (53* off 40 balls), and Rachin Ravindra (37 off 29 balls) were the standout performers with the bat.
India completed the chase with six balls to spare, securing the trophy without losing a match throughout the tournament, showcasing their dominance. This victory adds to their previous Champions Trophy wins in 2002 and 2013.
