DC Jammu Inspects Canal Desilting Operations to Ensure Timely Maintenance

JAMMU, MARCH 11: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing desilting and cleaning operations along the canal that stretches from Jammu University to the Railway Station and Trikuta Nagar areas. He was accompanied by Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, and a team of senior officials.

During the inspection, the DC highlighted the critical need for the swift removal and proper disposal of extracted silt to avoid potential environmental hazards and accidents. He directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jammu South and the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department to implement strict measures to prevent any encroachments along the canal’s banks.

This initiative is part of the district administration’s continued efforts to ensure the timely maintenance and repair of canal infrastructure.

At a meeting held last month, the DC had stressed the importance of expediting repair and desilting operations to ensure efficient water flow to the tail ends of irrigation channels. He also called for constant monitoring by the Irrigation & Flood Control Department to quickly address any encroachment concerns.
