The State Taxes Department (STD) of Jammu and Kashmir has ramped up its efforts to combat sale suppression and GST violations through a large-scale inspection drive across the Jammu division. The drive, launched under the guidance of Commissioner of State Taxes J&K, P.K. Bhat, and supervised by Additional Commissioner (Enforcement and Administration) Jammu, Namrita Dogra, focuses on investigating GST violations.
The inspections were driven by insights gathered from AI tools such as Business Intelligence and Fraud Analytics (BIFA), E-way Bills Portal, and other enforcement mechanisms. Special teams of State Tax Officers conducted simultaneous checks at various business units in Rajouri, Kishtwar, and Kathua, scrutinizing documents, stock positions, and bill books to identify GST law violations.
Namrita Dogra, Additional Commissioner, emphasized that 13 teams were formed to conduct these inspections, targeting dealers suspected of sale suppression and fake invoicing. The department has urged dealers to adhere to fair business practices and avoid engaging in tax evasion or fraudulent activities, particularly with fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims.
The department further appealed to taxpayers to ensure that all sales are properly invoiced, and to report their sales and pay the appropriate GST amount in their returns to avoid penalties and enforcement actions.
