Wait is finally over: PM to flag off train from Katra to Baramulla on April 19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first train service connecting Katra to the Kashmir Valley on April 19th, marking a significant milestone in realizing the long-held aspiration of rail connectivity for the region. This event fulfills a dream spanning over 70 years.

The inaugural train will depart from Katra town in the Reasi district, traversing the Pir Panjal mountain range to reach Srinagar, and ultimately terminate its journey at Baramulla in north Kashmir.

The flag-off ceremony at Katra will be attended by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Currently, a portion of the route is operational, with train services running between Sangaldan and Baramulla. Prime Minister Modi’s itinerary for April 19th includes landing at the Udhampur Army airport from New Delhi in the morning, followed by a flight to the world’s highest railway bridge situated over the Chenab river in the Reasi district before proceeding to Katra for the inauguration.
